Hey. It’s Bob Negen. And in this episode of Real Retail TV taken from the holiday selling course in the retail sales academy, we’re going to explore talking price at the holidays.
Knowing how to talk about price at the holidays is really, really important to your success. Hey. It’s Bob Negen, and this is another lesson in your ongoing professional development. Today, we’re going to explore talking price at Christmas.
And as you learned when you were first certified in the Retail Sales Academy, talking price, asking that price question is an important part of the, you know, questioning family. Or for stocking stuffers, we have a budget of five. We have a budget of fifty dollars in our family. Or for stocking stuffers, we have a budget of five.
We have a budget of ten. Often, people have budgets. So let’s go through the process and see where it fits in. Somebody comes into your store.
You use special holiday specific, warm words of welcome. You use the special holiday specific key question, and you ask, are you looking for something for yourself or a gift or maybe a little of both? And they say, I’m looking for a gift for aunt Alice.
Perfect. You know they’re shopping for aunt Alice. This is the perfect time to say, how much do you want to spend on aunt Alice?
And they’ll say, if there is a budget, this is when they have an opportunity to save. They say, we try to keep these gifts under twenty dollars. This is a housewarming gift. I’d like to spend about twenty or fifty or whatever the number is. You see, once they’ve given you a a number, a budget number, a price number, then you’re in the perfect opportunity to ask more questions, to listen correctly, you know, to skillfully discern what would be the perfect gift, what would be the perfect purchase. Now one final thing about this. When you ask someone about how much they have to spend, make sure that you are incredibly nonjudgmental.
Your body should open up like this. You should look them in the eye, and you should smile. Not, how much you wanna spend on aunt Alice?
How much do you wanna spend on aunt Alice? And then when they give you a number, respect that number. Ask more questions. Get them show them something that is in their price range and maybe something that’s a little more expensive. But always respect the budget first. So this is an incredibly important part of the process.
People have budgets, determine what it is, and you are a lot closer to the perfect gift, which, of course, is the perfect purchase.
Well, I hope you found that information both useful and helpful.
And your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to schedule a meeting or perhaps even just have a stand up. It’s only a three minute video, and watch this video with your staff.
Discuss the different things that you have in your store at different price points, but make them aware of holiday price shopping and how you can handle it effectively.
