This Episode: Inspiration vs Perspiration

On this episode of Real Retail TV, we’re going to talk about inspiration. Going into my trip to Colorado, I was tired and a little burned out. I was just going through the motions. As you know, I’m really passionate about helping you become more successful, but I wasn’t feeling it. And after a couple of days, out in Colorado unplugged from our business, I started to feel inspired, I started to become fired up again. On today’s episode I’m going to talk about the importance inspiration has on fueling that fire.

Hey, it’s Bob Negen. And in this episode of Real Retail TV, we’re going to talk about inspiration. This episode was shot in two parts. When I was out with my oldest son Joe in Steamboat Springs, we were skiing and it was taken on two different trips on a chairlift. Each of the trips I was by myself.

But a little back story. Going into this trip, I was tired and a little burned out. I was just going through the motions. And as you know, I’m really passionate about helping you become more successful. But I wasn’t feeling it. And after a couple of days, out in Colorado unplugged from our business, I started to feel inspired, I started to become fired up again. And that led to the two videos that are clipped together in this episode of Real Retail TV.

In the first, I talk about the difference between inspiration and perspiration. In the second, we discuss this whole idea of thinking versus doing. Enjoy. And of course, if you have any questions or comments, put them down below. I love to hear from you.
Hey, it’s Bob. And I’m not here in Steamboat Springs Colorado on the chairlift by myself. But I wanted to make a super quick video before I get to the top here about the difference between inspiration and perspiration. And every entrepreneur I know, including myself and Susan, we’re big on perspiration. We work hard. We know we need to work hard.

But here’s the thing, when you work too hard you don’t get the inspiration. So I was working hard. I had a lot of things going on, a lot of speaking earlier in the winter. And I just wasn’t feeling any creative juice at all.

And I get out here, I don’t think about business at all. I mean, I kind of do. But I don’t post on Whiz Bang Retailers. I don’t do the work.
And then by giving myself that space, all of a sudden I have become incredibly inspired to do the work that I’m supposed to do to help you become more successful. So one of my challenges to you is to recognize that when you become overwhelmed, when you become worn out, your opportunity is not to work harder. There’s not more things to put on your list to get done. Sometimes you have to take things off your list.

You have to get away from it. You have to rest. You have to get rid of the perspiration to get some inspiration.
So anyway, I’m just about here, and I don’t want to wipe out. So I’ll see you all later. Hope you found it helpful. Put your comments down below. We’ll talk later. Bye.

All right, we’ve got From the Lift, Part 2. So I’m going to share a quote from my friend Chris Knight.
And Chris knight said in the beginning of a business, the more you do, the more you make. But there comes a time in a business where the more you think the more you make. And since you can’t think and do at the same time, there always comes a time at a business where you have to think more and do less. So that’s why I followed up that first video where I was just talking about the difference between inspiration and perspiration. You know, Chris’s quote is the perfect follow up for that, because if you’re living in the world of perspiration, if all you’re doing is trying to power your way to business success, it’s a long hard row to hoe.

But if you recognize that there are resources out there, the Retail Masters System, the Retail Sales Academy, programs and products that we sell. But, you know, it doesn’t have to be about us. There’s lots of places to get business information. You can short cut your success. And that’s what I wanted to share with you is that this whole idea of think more, do less, take time, be inspired. That building a bigger to do list is not what’s going to get you to success. Working harder is not going to get you to success after a certain time in your business.

But thinking smarter, working smarter, doing the right things, putting yourself in association with the right people, putting an emphasis on your education as a business person, these are the things that are going to accelerate your growth. These are the things that are going to give you the time off. And what I love about businesses is the more time off you take, the more successful you’re probably going to be after a certain point in your business when you’re past the doing to make more and you’re into the thinking to make more.

So my hands are cold now. So I’m going to stop. And I think this is probably the last of my check-ins. Joe and I are flying home tomorrow. But I did that first one because I was feeling inspired after being out here for a few days. But then I realized that the quote from Chris was perfect also. So anyway, from Steamboat Springs, Colorado, it’s beautiful out here. We’ll talk soon. Bye.
